She's back and better than ever

Post by marc61 »

After a return to Ted's House of Luthery and a setup from my local guy, the project's back together. I was actually ready to give up on her but, she plays better than ever.

I replaced the neck pickup with a 4004 guy and the combination with the horseshoe is unparalled IMO.

It's interesting, this bass has features of the vintage 4001(checkerboard binding, horseshoe pickup), the 4002(ebony board0, and the 4004(neck pickup). Sonething for everyone you might say.

I like it. It's a deep quiet(not output, just hummwise) contrast to the sharp punchy horseshoe. The blend is excellent.

That's interesting Marc! Just last night I was thinking about switching out the toaster in my S5 with an HB.

Hey Jeff, what are your thoughts?

And does anyone have a black surround for an HB?

On the return trip, Fed Ex roughed it up a bit. Marc had to replace the pickguard and do some other work. When I found out, I was sick about it. The night I dropped it off, I had a bad feeling about sending it. The Fed Ex staff at the pickup center were not very sharp and I almost went back and to get it about an hour after dropping it off. I never get that feeling. Something was just not right about that trip. That bass has a really great sound and it plays nicely. It is really a sweet bass.

Very nice Marc. You should have Pickguardian make a vintage style guard for that, maybe a signature one!

The broken guard was a pickguardian signature.

What color is that Marc? It likes kind of like a pale Sea Green.
