New Arrival

Post by beefandbones »

What a great, funky little guitar this is!

It arrived at my work, so I spent nearly an entire work day with it, but without an amp. From the first strum, it just sang. Even unplugged. (Oh, and it arrived pretty much in tune - how about that?) And I really like the size of the neck, too. It's really easy to get up and down the fretboard, and although my fingers have grown used to the spacing on my 330, it didn't take me long to adjust. And then later, at home...

I've tried for years to get the guitar sound from the Velvet Underground's Loaded album (especially Oh Sweet Nuthin) and the 650D NAILS it. Even though it's got a solid body. Also, it's reminiscent of Richard Thompson's sound on the first few Fairport albums, Barthelemy Attiso's sound with Orchestra Baobab, and in addition the treble pickup can sound almost exactly like my old lap steel. I can (attempt to) play along with Johnny Marr on any number of Smiths songs and it still fits right into the music. Amazing!

I've read it here before, but now I'm joining the chorus: This is a seriously underrated model!

I've got a friend who is a Telecaster devotee (loves Rickenbackers, but doesn't care for the necks) and he felt right at home on the 650D.

Phil, thanks for everything! This guitar has found a happy home!

Ethan: Congratulations. I have a friend from Quebec who has a 650S and I had the pleasure of playing it a couple of years ago. It is a rockin instrument that is indeed under-rated.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
