Bridge Mute 101

Post by levykev »

Hello all-
What can I do about my problem with accidentally loosening the bridge mute screws located on my 4001CS bass when I play behind the pick-up cover??? I try to tighten them a good amount without raising the padded mutes too much. That doesn't work too well. Any advice???

Thanks and I love the site.

One thing you can do is put some 'Lock-tite' on the screw so it can't go up or down.

Do you need the mute?

If you actually use it ,then I would have someone braise on a couple of nuts to the mute plate. That will give you more length and also more thread....then change out the springs ,get a long stiffer spring .That will do it .

You could solder the nuts on ,but it may not last .
So you too want yours "ALAPWOB"?!?!

Thanks Mark. I might try one of those suggestions. I just try ro keep the bass as original as possible. (One of those vintage guys!)
