Beatle Bass Parts

Post by roadrunners »

if one listens to Live at the hollywood bowl
most of the parts seem pretty true to the record, but on a few of the songs.....the bass line is muchos different....for example "Cant buy Me Love" has a walk down bass parts during one of the verses on LATHB

Yeah, "She's A Woman" is very different.

I'm sure they did the intro this way so they could all find their way into the tune, over the din. I doubt the rest could have heard John's guitar if he had done the original style intro.

Also, the bass line on the verses is 1-5-7, rather than the original 1-5-4. Must have been easier to play without thinking about it or being able to hear it so well.

What else did you notice, Alex?

Id guess that like alot of musicians he just played what he wanted. The basslines were always similar with the odd note changed here and there. We know the basslines note for note becuase weve listened to em for years, but Macca only recorded them. I doubt he listened to his own music as much as we do therefore probably couldnt remember all the exact basslines all the time. I know I sometimes forget and make it up.

That's what keeps it fresh when playing the same songs over and over. At least that's my excuse for not playing songs the same way twice.Image
