Chris - Two 4005? I saw the 1974 4005 at Guitar Center yesterday. Tempting!

$5500. I liked it. It has a really wide flat neck profile, wider than my '66 fireglo. Worth taking a look at if you are in the area, but a lot of dough!

Ahhhh.....what the heck...go for it Mike!! What would our friend Jared say...?? "buy 'em all and let the creditors decide!!" Image

Well....I think that's a little on the high end, but it all depends on how bad you want it.....this particular bass is a "newer" one, with the high gains.....I think the older, toaster equipped models have a little more "appeal" , at least to me. I'm not sure I could resist this one if I was in the area and could put my hands on it and play it, though.... Image

That price does seem a bit high for a '70s 4005, but as there are not a whole lot of these to begin with I guess it is fair game.

Absolutely, Jeff. You can tell the diferencce. Like Chris, it has a very subtle less appeal if you already have an earlier one. If it played and felt anywhere close to my '66 fireglo, I would have dashed with it, paid, sold -- gone!

However, if I didn't have one I probably would have bought it. They are just too dang scarce!

For now.

There has not been a 4005 listed on E bay for a while now either. That would give an indication of prices to a certain degree. About 18 months ago there were around 5 offered in just a few weeks. A couple of real nice 68 F/G,s went for just over $2K and $3K respectively. Both real good buys. I think the black triple toaster example some 6-8 months ago was the last one I saw there, and I deliberated on that for 10 mins or so, before going for it at the $1800 BIN, only of course to see that someone else had got there first...
