Newbie introduction

Post by hieronymous »

Hi everybody, I just joined a couple of days ago. Right now I'm listening to the Govt. Mule track featuring Chris Squire from one of the recent "Deep End" albums and was inspired to introduce myself.

I currently live in Japan but make occasional trips back to the States (Berkeley and Boston). I am the proud owner of a 1976 Autumnglo 4001 with lots of non-original parts (knobs, toggle switch).

Here's a picture of it in the window of Cambridge Music in Massachusetts before I bought it:

Anyway, it's nice to meet you all - actually I recognize a couple of names from places like the FDP Forum, Talkbass, etc. I look forward to sharing in the 4000 series knowledge!

Welcome, Harry. Nice lookin' Autumnglo you got there. Be careful, the more you learn about these basses, the more you find yourself wanting to buy more.
Is everybody ready?

Hey there, Harry!

Nice-looking AG you have. Image

It's great all these new people are joining the forum, it's booming!

I've lost count of how many new people recently joined up.

Thanks for the welcome! My 4001 is definitely one of my favorites out of all the basses I've ever owned! Here's another picture, admittedly not very good, but different lighting and no window reflection!

I've actually wondered if it's actually Autumnglo, but after seeing pictures of other folks' Autumnglos and reading some threads, I'm pretty sure it is.

Welcome Harry. Randy hit it on the head when saying the more you know the more you want to buy. It happened to me. A week after I joined the forum I purchased my 2nd 4003. A jet glo.
I love those AGs. I need to add one to my collection.

Oh, yes. It is a '76. I did not notice that in you post the first time. Yours is prettier than mine. The burst is more even.

Hi Ted, yeah, I noticed that yours looks really similar - especially in the picture where it's being played in the "Mini confluence" thread. I think I really lucked out with this one. I love the pickups - tried putting Seymour Duncan's in it, and took 'em out the same day!

Here's one more picture, this time with the black vintage style knobs:

and you can hear it here - it's in the tune "...from hieronymous":

Harry, that is sweet! The black trim really goes well with the finish....probably the best I've seen in that finish, so far....
