425v63 Question

Hi Mark,

I recently purchased a new 425v63. The guitar is absolutely fabulous. As you know, the guitar has one standard re-issue toaster pup. I thought that I had read somewhere that the toggle switch is a three-way switch, yet I'm only able to place in the bass and treble positions.

Do you know if the switch is indeed a three-way, or a two-way?

I'm confused as to what you have !

I even went to the RIC site and looked around just to be certain of what you might have and what is new.

I must assume several possibilities;

1- this is a typing error and you really have a 325V63
2-You have an old 425 that is in really good shape (not a scratch on it !)
3-this is a test question

Mark: Rich is referring to the Reissue series crafted by Rickenbacker last year. I have posted a Burgundyglo 425V63 below.

Well the original was a tone circuit .

It gave you a choice of ---------

Mud / Clear / and mud that was not as dark .

The new version ?

I have no idea .

Me.....I'd say it is a two click tone switch .

Sort of useless.

To answer the question correctly, the reissues are like the way they were in 1963 with only a two position selector switch. In one position, it's the natural, clear sound from the guitar, while the second position brings in a capacitor to roll off some of the high end.

By the way, we went to great lengths to track down the original switches and I was very surprised to find these in a catalog after all these years.

I never said I had all the answers on Rickenbacker .This guitar was long after me and Barely there when I was .

Isn't the same switch as a Danelectro?

I had a '63 Dano which had the exact same setup: 1pu, tone/volume pots + one switch which I have to admit I probably never used, keeping it always up'n'bright (uh, down that is).

Beautiful guitar and such a glorious shape...
I have seen an original one, some years back over here in Paris: black with gold lucite guards. A true beauty - with a price tag to match.

Since there were only 40 or so produced, it's very unlikely I'll ever get close to one... How is the sound of these reissues, compared to a regular 620 ?

BTW, burgandy should definitely be back in Ricks' color options.

Mark, I think you are simply at a disadvantage about this ltd. issue /reissue Rick,only because
most of the P.R. about it was on the Rick NGs
before you got online, so how would you have known?Yes, some of this info is archived, but I bet not everyone that comes aboard here really digs too deep in the archives for info.Need proof of this? Just look at a lot of the same old topics/problems that keep cropping up all the time.In the nearly 3 years I've been online here,
I can't recall too many Rick related topics that Haven't been covered by now.We have this great Forum, and Gerards FAQ site, now just let's go refresh our memories by looking in the archives.

Mr. Hall, since I've had the guitar, (about one month), I haven't played my 360/6 MG. Thanks for manufacturing that beauty. It ROCKS!!!

Good points Don. What continues to amaze me is the wealth of information concerning Rickenbackers that still has not been documented whether this refers to early models, lap steels, amplifiers or the artists that play them. By pooling well-documented and validated resources of information we all benefit. A global forum let's us accomplish this by keeping a detailed record.
