4001 C64S- phenomenal bass- who has one?

Post by chucksimms »

I did it. Told my local dealer they should order a 4001C64 or a 400164S in September, I'd buy one. I immediately said, no, just the fireglo. Well, they ordered both and got in the 64S first... which I bought. What an amazing instrument. Even the non-Rick people at the store and my fellow musicians are drooling over it. That satin finish is the best! Now, what will I do when the fireglo C64 comes in? Hmmmm... anybody want to buy a well used Chris Squire 4001 signature bass? Image

How "well used" is the bass Chuck? What price were you thinking? You can let me know by email if you like. Thanks

I've had a few ask- if I do sell (I don't know if I could ever part with it realistically) I'll post it here first!

Chuck, I bought a C64S in Oct '03 but had to sell it due to finances. It was the best bass I ever owned. The satin finish is to die for, especially on the neck. I actually like the reverse headstock. Anyway, I'm happy to say that a fellow Forumite bought it from me and it has a good home. Calling Jeff Thomas, you want to sell it back??? Image I will be in the market to replace it later this year. Congrats on getting a great bass!!!!

Raises hand..... I have one and it is indeed a phenomenal bass.... a true tribute to Rickenbacker's bass building abilities.

Hey Steve, we got ours around the same time. If I remember right, the serial numbers weren't too far apart.

July 2003 build date arrived in November, IIRC they were not too far apart at all.
I'm toying with getting another one just so I can have one with flats and one with round wounds. The satin finish neck is just so sweet and gives that extra carve at the heel a smoother transition when you go way up high on the neck.

Another one, here; a C64SLH, actually. Received in April 2004.

I just have to say that It's absolutely the greatest instrument I've ever had, let alone the greatest bass!

The satin finish and the shape/feel of the neck are its two best features, I think. After that, well...everything else!

Does anyone know who the cheapest vendor is for one of these 4001C64S basses?

RicsRus is consistently more expensive than anyone else I've looked at. Anyone else?

Hi all. While I'm not new here, I guess I lost my old profile and forgot the user ID and PW anyway! I THINK I was "whrIII" like on another forum. That's what I get for not posting in 4 years! So anywho, I picked a new ID: "J-ONE 60" Cuz I Luv the J-160E, plus I have a Lic Plate with J-ONE 60 on it. And wouldn't you know, the forum changed it to Jone_60! Good thing they post names too!

That said... I also have 4001C64S (Right) - Build Date - the week of Aug 5th 2002. Arrived March 12, 2003. Ordered April 5, 2001 (after a cancelled order from 01/23/01 to EM Shorts!)

Love it! Love it! Love it! A 4001C64 in Fireglo would be a dream too, but I somehow have a hankering for a 4004 in the new "Blueburst" next!

Someone mentioned Mike Parks, so I'll add North Coast Music. Gary has pretty good prices for these basses and he usually has stock too. But I got mine at Rhoads Music - and Jim's price and service was excellent as well!

Rics-R-Us are also not authorized dealers. Their goods are all gray, parallel imports, not genuine new product, sold without warranty.

The fellow seems like a nice guy and certainly a RIC fan but he hasn't been able to meet the minimum criteria set by the U.K. distributor to become a legitimate dealer.
