New and Blue and on it's way!

Post by marc61 »

Mike Parks just e-mailed to let me know that my 4004 Cheyenne II Blue Boy is in stock. Hopefully he can ship today for the weekend.

Mike said he ordered four and three are sold. Mine was the first one that arrived. I'm still wondering if these were the only ones odered.

I'm just excited that I'm going to get to try a 4004.

Jared,

That combo was the whole idea. Ireally would have liked a translucent color but, I got caught up in the rarity.

Not quite sure how I feel about here. There's some buzzing in the third to fifth fret, like they need to be dressed or something. The neck is also a bit chunkier than I like. Maybe it just takes getting used to. I'll take it to rehearsal on Thursday and see.

Chunky necks...hmmm...I've found the same thing on my new 2005 4003. I've also wondered if Rickenbacker elected to go to a "unified neck profile" across all of their 4 string bass product offerings.

I can define the "chunky" concept, too, at least using the two 4003's I have for comparison. I have the 2005, and then a second 4003 from '97. With each bass on the stand, measuring using a piece of waxed floss at right below the 5th fret, the newer instrument neck circumference is 1/8" greater. I checked again at right below the 12th fret and found that the neck circumference on the newer neck is nearly 1/4" greater. I've checked the fretboard width and fret width, end to end, and found these measurements to be essentially identical, so the difference is all on the back side of the neck. The newer necks are more round. They are not only deeper, but also more rounded. You can easily feel it.

Some might prefer this, but I do not.

So I have to wonder if you are seeing the same thing on that neck, Marc? I don't (yet) have a 4004 to compare with the 4003's, let alone two 4004's from various years!

Ok--enough of that...your bass is beautiful. I'd like to see a few closeups.

Very nice Marc! Looks real sweet! Yes, please post additional posts.

Congrats and enjoy!

Although I have to say that the jury is still for me with Cii’s and opaque colors. I love the look of the sandwiched walnut – particularly fond of natural Cii’s

Greg, I had a 97 4003 and it had a sweet neck, nice flat profile. The two 4004 Cii's that I had one 2003 and a 2004 that I sold to Henny basically have identical necks - not what I would call chunky at all - wider than my 4003 with a flat, sweet profile.
