I think that's a great idea, Dean - I have no kids myself, but two of my nieces are already showing an interest so I'm forcing Rickenbackers on them to keep them keen! (they're only 11 and 13 so can barely reach the first 3 frets!!!)
Warren - hello, I'm in Sussex. you've sure got all the right influences there... and Hi Jeff - my big budget days are over! I doubt I'll be competing with you folks on ebay for quite a while...!!!

Hi Mark - no never even see one in the flesh! A 1965 Rose Morris Rickenbacker would be a great way to round things off... I must say, though, I only have two 60's basses, and really apart from the "Who" bass, I went for all my collection because the price was good at the time and it was something - checkerbinding, a semi acoustic,AZUREGLO (!!)etc - that I couldn't get new. Don't get me wrong the vibe of vintage gear is fantastic, but I really feel the sound, maufacturing quality and hardware on Ricks is so good now, for a consistent bass that's reliable for the rough and tumble of many amateur live gigs I love the new stuff. (my current workhorse is a v63 that's refinished kind of sonic blue - purely because its previous owner commited the sin of leaving it on a plastic stand and large "burn" marks ruined the neck and body)If 4005's were in the range now, well, lets say I get paid on the 6th each month and I suspect by lunchtime on the 7th the account would be empty and every month would be Christmas in this house!!!

Actually Henny, there are five RM1999,s here. The Oz boys Gerry and Eden down under who contribute here have three between the two of them...

Shaun, your odds are probably a little more favourable than Henny on this one, who, if he finds one will probably have to pay the piper (not me!) considerably...

You're not wrong Andrew....although if we've got 5 RM1999s and only 3 or 4 72/73 azures with the full package on the entire Forum it's probably still not a good idea for me to hold me breath Image
