Factory Shaded Green Finish

Post by admin »

There are two very nice vintage Rickenbackers, a Model 330 and a Model 360 in the rare factory shaded green finish posted on the Rickenbacker Registration Page today. A must see along with the complete story. Very nice! Thanks to Jeff Benske for this information and nice photo.

I had a chance to purchase a green 360 just like the one in the Rickenbacker Book around 1978-79 brand new from Rock City Music in Royal Oak, Mi. It was a double bound 360 with the full width triangle markers,hi-gain pickups, and factory flat wound strings. I had ordered a 320 and it took about 5 months to show up. When it did the owner showed me the 360 and said it was new but had been sitting around the Rick factory for several years. They just sent it to him as part of a large order of Ricks. I could have had it for $550, but I was still in high school and didn't realize that I could have written them a check for $100 more than I had in the bank and then gone home and begged Mom and Dad to loan me the money so it wouldn't bounce. I've kicked myself ever since.

There's always one that seems to get away. You were close Jeff. I am hoping that discussion of those instruments with the Factory Shaded Green finish reveals more of these instruments. I wonder if there were any basses made that were finished in green?

In the interest to adding something to an older thread.

The video for the R.E.M. song "Crush With Eyeliner" has a Green Burst Rick in it... It resembles the 360WB pictured in the Bacon/Day Rickenbacker book.

Just thought I'd throw that in, since I didn't see it mentioned.
