So there's these 2 RED basses....

Post by jaymi »

Alrighty then, here's the skinny on the 2 RUBY basses:
--According to the Ric website, these are made in Dec of 86 and Jan of 87
--As you can see by the pictures, the black trim is intact and I plan to keep them just as you see them, I tried to change out a couple of chrome pieces but they took away from the color
--The neck wear is on the 86 and it is no different than my 91 MBlue, the finish is intact and the color has changed UNDERNEATH the top clearcoat
--The necks are both arrow straight and have little to no fretwear
--Obviously, the basses have been played and there are various nicks and scuffs here and there(not an issue for me!!)
--The camera makes them look redder than they actually are, there is a silver coat underneath as can be seen on the neck of the 86
--I played them both yesterday at church using the trusty SansAmp and was happy as a clam about how they sound
--These have become #1 and #2 and will be my touring basses as I go out live

The last picture here shows the color without any real artificial light...especially when next to fireglo.

These basses look Red to me, not Ruby. Ruby was a metallic red, while Red was non-metallic. And according to the timeline on Mike Parks' site, Ruby was 1980-84, Red was 1985-99.

jeff, azure and cheyenne I

Dave, the undercoating on these is silver, I matched them to my earlier Ruby basses and the color is identical. The Camera made them look more red but check out the ruby/fireglo picture and the color makes more sense. They are definitely NOT the "ferrari" red..

I've actually seen Ruby 4003 with '85 and '87 serials. I had a Ruby 620/12 that had an '86 serial. It's still a rare color but I think the timeline is a bit off.
a couple of Shadows a Blackstar and an Annie.
