Anyone near Tampa with a 4004?

OK, I'm pretty much ready to pull the trigger on a new bass. I've been lusting after a 4004...but...

I've never even seen one in person.

If anyone lives within an hour or so of Tampa Florida and has one, I would appreciate being able to take a peek and play it for a few minutes to see if the genuine article meets the mental picture I have.

If you're after a Laredo, I can't help you. I have a Cheyenne.

Henny which Cheyenne do you have I or II? Where did you buy it in the UK, as Im always on the look out for one here and have never seen one, I was told by Rosetti that there were only one Laredo I, about 6 Cheyenne I's, and a few Cheyenne II's sold in the UK. Ive tried most dealers who sell Ricky's and none have ever had or ordered any!

go to this page and you can hear a 4004L triple tracked with a drum machine ... one bass playing chords, one playing bass and one playing lead ... it was recorded on a $150 casette recorder ...

Appreciate it, but...can't seem to get the track to work, Jeff.

From what I understand, the Laredo is a little less dark sounding than the Cheyenne...

But I'd really want to try and play one myself to see if my GAS meets reality. I got the ultimate tease today, as I went to the music shop I bought my 650 Dakota from in 2001...they said "we have one in stock at our store in Lutz", which was about 1 30 minute drive from Tampa. They even said it was a mapleglo, which is what I really want...

Idiots. They had a 4003. Very pretty, but NOT what I want.

Now I'm wondering if I should compromise? Music123 says they're getting a midnight blue Laredo in at the end of the week...I could probably have it quickly...but I WANT a mapleglo. Their web site says "special order-e mail us"...

Or I keep looking...I suppose it's probably best to be patient.

- Cii, only known Tranny-Red in England.

Thanks Henny, its a beauty, and that answers my question, what year is it? Im trying hard to get the money together for the 4004ii Laredo FG, Ive found in Holland. As far as I know from Rosetti, they have also sold a Trans Blue Cii and a Trans Green Cii in the UK, so they must have sold a few more, but which ones and where, who knows! If I cant get the one in Holland, I too will have to look at an import!

Cool.

Laredos are sweet, a little bit brighter-sounding than the Cii, but that's what I like about the Cii - it's thunderous.

I'm soon to replace the neck HB1 with a Gold toaster. That should variate the tones a bit.

They are the Rolls Royce of Rics.

Couldnt agree more, because I like thunderous sounding basses, I have been thinking about trying to get a Cii in either Mapleglo or Fireglo, but I dont want the ones from late 2004 and 2005 as from what I have been reading on here the neck radius has changed, and it bigger, wider an rounder, as I have smallish hands i would one before that period! I think thunderous is the best, and most of the bassists I like have a thunderous sound. They all seem to use either SVT's or Marshall VBA amps. What are you using Henny?

Mr. Marshall VBA400 head with a VBA412 cab, primarily.

Although, I also have a couple of Marshall Super Bass 100s + Hartke 35000 head + Ashdown 1'15 + Ashdown 4'12.

But, I'm a Marshall man through and through. I absoloutely love Squire's live sound from the late 60s with Yes.

Thats exactly what I plan to get, Mani uses them, Bruce Foxton use to use Marshall (Super Bass 100's) and got a killer sound. I would also like to get an Ampeg SVT with 4x12 as I also like the sound they have, and my best mate Stan Stammers who use to play with Theatre of Hate and Spear of Destiny uses them and has a great sound, best of both valve worlds I guess you could say! Yes I agree Squire also had a great sound too.

love them Super Bass 100s! Hard ta find here so I've had to mod (ducks) Super Leads with a few cap/resistor changes.

Otherwise the circuits are identical

Its a shame there also difficult to come by here in the UK, even though they were made here, Lemmy's bass tech goes round buying all they can get their hands on, so Lemmy can keep his sound! They'll run out one of these days unless Marshall re introduce them!
