The guy also uses the handrest as a mute, hahaha!
There can be no other explanation for it being so close to the strings.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

Has anyone noticed where the price of this mutilated bass has gone? Ebay does not always make sense. I was thinking it was worth $650 or so. Apparently a few people disagree.

As an experiment I think I'm going to run a little ebay auction of my own on a Rick bass. In my description, I'm going to write all about what excellent condition it is in, how it has been babied all of its life and how rare it is. Then I'm going to include photos of that 4001V63 that was run-over by the owner's ex-wife. How do you think it'll do?

You might get $500-600 for it, depending on whether or not you accept Paypal! Someone ALWAYS thinks they can resurrect it.

This one can be cosmeticaly restored but it would be a lot of work.

Uh, it just broke $900. I picked up an '05 4003 for $850 two weeks ago. What is the attraction here? Shill bidders?

Interesting. Are the late 70's Ricks becoming more valuable, or just the mutilated ones?

I like Sergio's observation about the strings hitting the pickup cover. I'd imagine a whole new world of tonal possibilities has been opened up from that move!
