HOW DO YOU USE THE RIC-O-SOUND & OUTPUTS?

How do you guys use the ric-o-sound? Does the mono work if you're using the stereo? Do you use a splitter and if so, split to what effects and/or equipment? Thanks, Frank.

(I'll also need this information in the future as I plan on buying one of those sweet babies with RIC-O-Sound!!)

Frank...I created my own spliter, stereo jack out and you can run it to two separeate amps or I've run it through my board, which runs direct to my compressor. Don't know if I follow if the mono would work if using the stereo. If you mean running two lines out, well, I've never tried that.

Yo Stan, so I could run from the splitter to two different tracks on my VS2480CD and add different effects to each side of the stereo Ric-O-Sound? Do you think this might give me something different sounding than just adding the same 2 effects to a mono single track? Different phasing maybe? Thanks, Frank.

Frank, you kinda have to experiment. What I did was run the spliter, similar to what you're saying, into two different tracks on my Mackie. I panned left and right on the output through my Mackie monitors while recording. It certianly enriched the sound. Yeah, you could say it is different phasing, depending on how you worked the EQ of each input/output. You could run more highs off one side, more midrange off the other, etc, almost like double tracking without having to go to the trouble. Like I said, kind of tinker with it. It's obviously not true stereo in the perfect sense, because you are coming from one source.

Do not use the mono output at the same time as using the Rick-O-Sound output, if you do you will reverse the polarity of the Earth's poles, and while doing so everything will lift off the planet! Image

Actually you will negate the stereo out as the mono jack shorts the two channels together. Image

Thanks Jeff, I think I'll go bring the planet to it's end right away. Actually I'll probally go experiment with the Ric-O-Sound like Stan says. Maybe run one side of the split to the VS and then run the other to my amp and mic it, that should really phase it pretty good. Later, Frank.

I have a Ric-O-Sound unit, but I don't really use it too much. I have experimented with using different effects going to different channels and one clean and one overdriven channel, etc. When recording I ran one signal direct to the recorder through a POD and the other to my amp and miked the amp sending that signal into my recorder simultaneously. Unfortunately with work and school I haven't had a whole lot of time to experiment with it lately. It's kind of a dinosaur in today's world of effects, but it's still kind of cool.

YO! BMI guy, couldn't you find a frowny face. Yep a VS2480CD w/ 17" LCD Roland DS 50a & M-Audio 2.1 monitors, 3 VS8F-2 cards, 1 VS8F-3 card for third party plugins like Antares Auto-tune VS. I'm a disabled vet, 53yr old, and refinanced my house after 9/11 to buy a small studio setup and some good guitars and mics, Ric 360/6, Taylor 410ce, Gib ES-135, Gib LP STD LE, Washburn Bass, a Baby Strat (for the bedroom) and I had a 88 Strat, 96 Yamaha, a Suziki Classical and a Yamaha P200 Key board that I got a XV5050 for. Rode NT1000, Marshall V57N, Behringer B-5, Shrue SM58 a Presonus Tube Mic Pre and a Zoom RT323 drum machine plus I put Acid Pro 3.0 and Cakewalk HS 2004 on my Gateway XP. Being disabled, music is all I do with my time. Acid Pro has been great for doing my drum tracks. I use to use my Tascam 4 track but it was more trouble and too noisey to get a good album out of. Let me tell you, once I got the VS2480CD figured out, it's a piece of cake to use and the effects are awesome! I spent 2 months on the phone with Roland's tech support guys using $20 phone cards and they made it even easier. The manual is a bear. But now, I'm in HEAVEN! I have waited my whole life for this and finally the technology and price came together for me. In a package deal locally I paid $3250 for the VS2480CD and spent almost $8,000 total on it and 3 guitars, cables w/ mics and stands and Video & Audio monitors. Seriously guys, the VS blows me away! Good Luck getting yours. Even the smaller cheaper ones are awesome too. Check out the VS2000 or even the BR1180CD. Later, Frank.

The VS2480 is an amazing unit, I have the older non-CD version and couldn't be without it!

I think having the CD external could have some advantages over internal. For one, replacing it and the same for the hard drive. Do you use an external video monitor(VGA)? I hear without one the little 4"x5" screen on the unit and all the menus can be a real hassle to get use to. I can't imagine being without my VGA. When I first got mine the there wasn't a manual for using VGA. I run my Ric 360/6 through HiZ16 and add Effects P19 Guitar Multi 2 with Reverb #2 and get a good blues/rock honkin' sound out of my leads, I like my Les Paul with that setup too. Have you tried P98 Phaser with your Ric yet? I think Roloand's effect are awesome, the ones I use. There's a lot of them I nevwer use. Tell me more. Later, Frank.

I do use an external monitor for it, yeah. For most guitar tones I use a Line 6 Pod Pro or mic up my amp, but for effects I do use Roland's, some of them are stellar.

I got Behringer's Bass V-amp & Guitar V-amp 2, I started to get the Line 6 Pod Pro but I could get both V-amps for less than the Line 6. Are you recording your own original music by yourself or play with a band? I've been doing it all by my self. It's rather time consuming. Later, Frank.

I have a friend who's good with this kind of stuff helping me. We record local bands and split the profits. We get lots of business.

Aside from that, I record whatever band i'm playing in at the time, and also my own ambient stuff, which I can usually do on my own. I also have lots of fun using the drum machine on my Yamaha Motif, which usually eliminates the need to constantly have a drummer around to work on songs. =)
