Loving my new Ric
Hi everybody,
After having quite a hard time finding a Ric dealer here in Southwestern Ontario, I finally tracked one down in Cambridge. To make a long story short, they had the exact guitar I wanted in the store (save for a different colour) that hadn't been touched by anybody except the staff at the store.
Thanks to the good people at Murch Music and UPS, I had my very first Rickenbacker - a 2000 360/6 VP Mapleglo in my hands two days later. I've since recorded a few songs with it (through a Vox, of course!) and everything is just great. I just wanted to share my story with some fellow Ric players who know exactly how I feel.
Take care,
Corey

Corey: I have, over the years, come to love my mapleglo Rickenbacker the best. McGuinn did all right with a mapleglo as well. Congratulations.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Thanks!
I originally wanted a Fireglo, although my heart wasn't set on the colour, really. I just knew I wanted it to be in one of the "main three glo" colours.
After getting the guitar, I found out that Mapleglo has the best wood (generally speaking) since you can't hide any imperfections in the wood with a paint job. I may just stick with Mapleglo for when I eventually get my next Ric, which I'm thinking will be a 370/12. Wow, for a Peter Buck man, I'm hitting a lot of McGuinnisms!

I'm playing through a Vox Cambridge 30 Reverb. It's got very nice reverb and tremolo settings. I'm going to get an e-bow and a Boss delay pedal at some point, but I've basically got my little recording setup now.
If you're curious, you can listen to what I've done with my Ric so far at my mp3.com site - it's at http://www.mp3.com/fashionpolice
The tracks "Rust and Clay", "Desert Music" and "Like an Emergency" feature my 360.

I tend to agree with Peter about Mapleglo--the look sweet when new and tend to age gracefully....although some of the old Fireglo Ricks have a nice color to them. The wood that went into some the recent production (i.e. the CW 6 and 12-strings) is highly figured and is visible even with a Fireglo finish.

Corey,
I recently purchased a 360/6 myself, a Jetglo. I live in Ottawa and there is a Rick Mapleglo 330 at Steve's Music here, but I my preference was for the black 360. Actually, I bought mine from a guy on ebay. He purchased it new from Sam Ash Music Stores in NYC on Aug 31, 01. I don't know, maybe he didn't like it or something. He said something about his wife and his toys and an ultimatum. Anyway, I got it from him, and asked him to wrap it carefully before consigning it to UPS. When I picked it up I found he had wrapped it in layer upon layer of saran wrap! (Thankfully it was in the case - he wrapped the case, but still...).
It's a wonderful guitar, the first "name" guitar I've owned. I think I never got one before because I figured my playing wasn't up to the caliber of the instrument. Now, I find the instrument is raising the caliber of my playing!
Best, Paul

I am a southpaw and attempted to learn how to play right-handed, but it just didn't work out. I found out the my abilities improved when I had the guitar restrung as a lefty and started playing left-handed. However, I was never really comfortable playing the guitar upside down.
My abilities significantly improved after getting my first left-handed guitar, a Mapleglo 360/6. Now it shares playing time with two other lefty Rickenbackers, a Mapleglo 1997 and a Fireglo 360/12 CW.
