With all these Chris Sqire basses on Ebay........
do you think that some of the dealers may lower their prices? I know of two dealers who have 4001CS's at around $4,000.
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.
I really don't know. I'm always wondering how much higher they can go with these, but if someone is willing to pay those prices, they'll just keep going up. I guess that I got lucky when I paid $1900 for mine over two years ago, and I thought at the time that was too high! I'm still kicking myself for not buying a new one at Rolls Music Center in Falls Church six years ago. They wanted $925 for it.

...and twenty years from now guys will be kicking themselves for not paying $4000. That's just the way it goes with collecting and inflation.
Let me see... In the 1960s I sold my Hofner Beatle bass for $125 with case---my 4005 Ric bass for $150, my Dan Armstrong "see through" for $200 bucks, and too many 60s "P" and Jazz basses to mention. My most expensive sale was to Jim Fielder of Blood Sweat and Tears. He paid me a whopping $400 for a Jazz body "P" neck Fender I had. (actually in the mid 70s) He still plays it.

Ron, you have it in one; "if people pay these prices.." well, i wish people had more discipline or maybe patience. As a lifelong fan and someone who would love to cherish a 4001CS or a 4080 I will never keep up with them. It's a shame buyers can't say "no, that's too expensive". The $7000 bid for a 4080/12 on rickbid is a case in point. Beautiful bass/12 str., excellent provenance but the bidder should hopefully be feeling just a little bit guilty. What price the next one? $10,000? They will all end up locked away never to be seen again. Sorry to go on, leave me to my dreams of less avarice and more sense. Or am I the only one?

I guess its all relative, depending on how "deep your pockets are". $7000 is a larger dip into their "net worth" for some than for others. My opinion is if they can afford it and want it at that price then they should get it. (fyi - its out of my range).
If they were all selling at a low dollar with the same demand there still would be a problem as there wouldn't be enough to go around, so some people that wanted them would still not be able to have one.
