Model 59 options nut, saddle/bridge???????

Post by ashenash »

Since original bakelite are rare, what would you use ? Rick Aiello recommends brass, and I know he's "da man" but I would like to hear other possibilities. How would different materials affect the tone/sustain on a model 59 ?

Thanks in advance

Robert, I'd like to add a question to your post. Once we settle on the material, how do we find the exact dimensions. I may have to replace a non-existant bridge. Is there a member out there who can give a detailed description? Aloha, David.

Richard, I take it that the bridge is triangular in section with rounded ends. What is the overall width and length? thanks, DM

The bridge is 3.25" x 0.5" x 0.5"

The nut is 2.0625" x 0.375" x 0.4375"

Here are photos so you can see the shape ...

Very nice work Rick. Thanks for this.

Thanks Rick, that's perfect. I'm thinking I could make a mold, and use epoxy resin with a powdered silica matrix like Cabosil. Aloha, DM
