Two 20 year olds talking in 5 years: Round wounds? Huh, What are those? Oh yeah, didn't they used to use those a lot in the old days. I think you can still special order them from a couple of places on the net.

I think I'm going to look for a 3 string bass... Image

I hear rubber bands get a nice tone!

Tony Levin has a custom 3 string Musicman Stingray.

Tony Levin also plays 10 string Sticks... Image

He could probably make rubber bands sound good, too!

The 3 string comment was a joke - John Hall said recently in a thread about 5 string basses taking over the world that once upon a time upright basses only had 3 strings...and the concept of an E string was probably looked on by some as "those damn young kids!" Image

Just trying to make Mr. Rath chuckle!

Isn't that how flats are now, mostly a special order kind of deal?

I don't know, nowadays you can walk into a music store and find flats, maybe even have a choice of flats. There was a time not 5 years ago when flats were nearly impossible to find, at least 'round here.

Yeah, my local place has GHS bright flats, Fenders and Rots. They are also going to get a premium flat, I suggested Pyramid Gold, all the places around here have Fenders as does GC, they are very common. Us city slickers are always the first to get the new trends, dreams? you bunghole, heh heh heh.

here's some CG employees who are very glad to offer their expert opinion on strings ... they are sure the very best strings for you are the ones in stock ...

LOL Jeff! Image

Down here in Tampa it's still tough to find flats in the music stores. I've ordered from Musician's Friend most recently.

Since flats tend to last a long time, the extra set I have may last a while...
