No, not like Carvin. I'd expect a hypothetical Rick Custom Shop to product instruments with feeling, not the cold lifeless things that Carvin overprices...

Not saying Carvins are bad...I just think they are pricey for what you get (ever price one with ALL the options you might want?), and lack a certain measure of individuality. Just MHO. I guess some people like guitars that resemble robots.

Buy a 4001V63 and slim down the neck and refinish it, plus get a finger rest made. That will be the closest you will get to a CS.

It's funny how everybody is telling Kenneth to just get a V63 (or whatever Ric) and modify it to his specs.........but if he actually did it and posted pics or tried to sell it on ebay it would be blasted here as being a "hackjob" and threads would start with "What kind of sick freak would do this to a Ric". Just an observation

I may eventually refinish my 4001V63 like Squire's, and I am going to add a finger rest! So blast me if you must, but I usually do some kind of mods to my basses, having been doing so for decades on almost any bass I have owned, including Fender, Alembic, Zon, Yamaha, Rickenbacker and Gibson; they are all great basses but I change things to make them fit me as a bassist in ways that suit me better.

In addition, the Rick Forum just isn't the proper sounding board to make demands to Mr. Hall. I'm positive that if you e-mailed Mr. Hall directly, you would get a response from him. That's the tactful way of doing things, without exposing yourself to flames from our fellow forumites. We all want things we can't have, but life goes on.

If it was as easy as just demanding that Mr Hall makes us a gtr, then we'd all be doing it!

Mr Hall is doing a great job of keeping Rickenbacker as one of the the most respected & admired guitar manufacturers of our time IMO & if that means that we do without a custom shop...so be it. I, as I suspect we all do, respect his reasons....

...yes, we like that we can get a well made American instrument without paying a fortune for it and that there are no OLP Rickenbackers being mass produced.

The Vintage Series Basses and the CS's that show up on Ebay and not reasonably priced. They are selling at AUCTION to the highest bidder. And remeber, they are all USED instruments, some much more than others. I've made no DEMANDS on John Hall, just asked for product I believe could quite easily be produced... however I have no inside info on the inner-workings of the Ric Factory. FWIW, John and I have had e-mail exchanges and they have been most interesting. He's a nice guy, back in '87 I was give a private tour of the Museum and saw many cool old Ric's including the original frying pan, so Rickenbacker has treated me very well in the past. My point in this post is to inform management what (some) of the customer base (no pun intended) is thinking. Currently, there are no vintage series basses available from Ric. Loyal customers like myself usually don't mind waiting, infact, the anticipation only makes for a more satisfying experience. I'm willing to wait if the product was to be available ether via custom shop, or standard product line. Guys, be honest, if custom shop instruments were available or RM1999 re-issues, V68 re-issues offered, wouldn't you be onboard?
