John Hall, Make me a Bass...

Post by kbhag »

John, I would like to special order a bass I'd like a 4001S with a slim neck, in cream like Chris Sqire's with a finger rest, toaster and Horseshoe. (mono output)

Let me know!

In other words, Kenneth wants a 4001CS (with finger rest). Got $4K?

Interesting retail concept:

Make what customers want = selling product.

Yeah, I got 4K. There's no 4001 worth that. John, make me a bass and sell it to me.

Kenneth - the bass you're describing is basically a 4001CS which was a limited run signature bass. If RIC did decide to make the bass you requested, how would folks who've shelled out upwards of $4000 for a 4001CS feel?
What you're asking for is a RIC custom shop instrument. From everything we know of RIC's operation, they're running at full capacity as it is. A custom shop doesn't appear to be in their immediate future. As far as keeping customers happy, I'm sure RIC's main concern is fufilling orders for eager customer on stock models.

Kenneth, I've been waiting about 17 months for a 4004/5Cii bass that has become a regular production instrument. There are guys waiting years for a 4004LK. With the busy schedule at RIC, I don't think they can spend the time re-tooling for one instrument. Even if RIC would make that bass for you, you are going to wait an extremely long time.

Ken: The fact is, there are no custom Ricks these days. At least none that the average person can order.

Just buy a 4001S on eBay, paint it and have the thumb-rest dude make a thumb-rest.

Where's the fun in having a custom RIC made for you? Customize it yourself. Where's you sense of adventure?

Again ... we wish RIC had a custom shop ... sorta like Carvin ...
