Yeah, Paddy, I told Kenny he could be my wingman anytime.
Of course, The Shambles have a permanent bassist, he just had something crop up that forced him to back out of the gig.
Hell, I'd be quite happy to play bass for Kenny as long as I can use my Hamer for most of the songs.
And now that John has openly posted to say that it was his Shadow, I have to say what a great bass that is. Kenny says a lot of the tone is due to the setup that John personally did on the bass. John and I both think that Kenny's musical talents have a lot to do with the sounds he was getting. Either way, though, it sounded incredible and that's likely a combination of great talent and great gear. At least it sounded great in rehearsal, that is. We had to keep our stage volume so low it was all I could do to hear anything but drums.

I wish I'd brought the camera in for the 1st set - Kenny played the Shadow w/ the Shambles, then PERFORMED some of his songs solo on the 330 - till he busted a string.
I've been listening to Kenny's cds & for those unfamiliar with his music - check him out - A guy with that much talent must be a multi-millionaire.

Although the drums dominated the room a bit & more guitar would have been nice, the overall sound was well balanced. You guys were tight, having fun and the set list flowed well. I'll look forward to seeing The Shambles at the Adams St. fair this summer.

Thank you all for the compliments...especially you Tom (for the part about being a multi-millionaire...I could get used to that).
Kev - there was, of course, a Ric 8-string 4003, which would surely bring the rumble. From the ones I've played, though, it could have used an 8-saddle bridge. Were I a full-time bass dude I'd hunt one down.
John's Shadow bass is awfully good. It can go GONK like a good Ric bass should.
It'd be great to get more involved in the Shambles/San Diego music scene; however, that's 80 miles each way for me. I seem to have developed quite the knack for finding groovy people to hang out with/play music with who are a really long car ride from me.

There really is a big difference between an eight and a 12 string. I like four string basses, I like 12 string basses. But for some reason, I don't really like the sound of 8 string basses that much. They sound too gimmicky to me. Honesly, I really think a Rick 12 string bass would be cool. But there is no doubt that it would need an eight saddle bridge.
And, yeah, I could never really ask you (or anyone) to commit to a 160 mile commute to rehearsal and gigs. The price of gas alone would kill the plan.
As to being a multi-millionaire... I'm playing the Lottery tomorrow night. 44 mil will go a long way.
