Here is the photo for discussion. Image
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

It looks real. The photo looks like a RIC catalog picture. I've emailed the seller for the serial number. We'll see what's up.

The serial number checks out. This bass was manufactured in November of 1973

Check out this strange Rickenbacker 4001 copy on ebay. They could not even get the pickup placement right.

That's a fake, John. Looks like a pretty good one though.

Hi, everybody. John, 'It actually doesn't look too bad.'? The bass has 'FAKE' written all over it. Even the (genuine) nameplate looks like it was taken from a Rick 12-string guitar, not a bass. I wish people would stop trying to pass off copy guitarsfor real Rickenbacker stuff. Recently I spotted someone on Ebay selling four fake Rick bass parts for sale, and one of them, a 4001 bridge pickup, doesn't even remotely resemble a Rick pickup. What's the world coming to?
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

This topic is in Rick basses, but oh well, here is another Faker on ebay. A copy of a 330, it seems another cookie cutter no-name branch of a larger overseas company made it. Didn't RIC put a stop to these being made?
