IS THIS A RICKENFAKER?
I saw this on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&item=878401828 Check out the jack plate. It says STEREO-SOUND, not RICK-O-SOUND. Your opinion?
Sorry, this is the correct site. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=878401828
I has my vote for a Rickenfaker. Anyone else.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Rickenhacker, maybe, but it's the genuine article underneath the third party pickguard, fingerrest, and switched out nameplate, plus homemade jackplate.
As we all know, the telling factor of all telling factors lies under the nameplate.
I say it's a Rick with poorly thought out mods.

The ideal mix leaves the bass player louder than the rest of the band put together!

Hello, everybody. I'm new to the Forum, and let me start by saying that Ebay item 878401828 is clearly a Rick copy. The binding pattern, the shape of the tailpiece string holes (look closely), the tuners, the jackplate and a few further details just aren't there for Rickenbacker connoisseurs to make a mistake over. I've seen a few Rick copies in my time (mainly by Cimar and Nagoya). Having said that, it's a beautiful copy. Thanks for reading.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.
Mark: Riddle me this? What would the motivation be for someone to take a stock Rickenbacker Bass and replace it with keywinds such as this, an obvious fake jackplate and such a poor fretmarker job. Truss rod and control cavities aside, don't you think that the balance of probabilities would have this instrument as a fake from the beginning.

I have never seen a checked binding fake , anyone seen one?
The grain /sanding lines in the sunburst are signs of a refinish or a really lame spray job.
These are the two problems I have .
Yes they are fake Grovers .... but if they were removed , would you see another set of holes .
Inlays ...the early 1970's had lots of variations on inlays , in size and color and material .This was a time of experimenting to replace the crushed material.

This bass was suspiciously similar in terms of finish colors to an Ibanez -» Rick copy that was on ebay a few weeks ago. I emailed the seller about the number of truss rods, but he replied that the bass was no longer for sale. He did end the auction, but for this to now show up as an "invalid item" this would have had to be done by Rickenbacker to prevent any 'after the fact' transactions. So I think it's safe to say that the folks at Rickenbacker were right on top of this one and it was a fake.
