I know I sound like a broken record and freely admit that I'm also not too keen on their rather "non-classic-Rickenbacker" body shape (almost every family has an ugly sister hidden away somewhere) but these things can boogie and have an incredibly solid, playable feel about them. Maybe it's the fairly thick heavy body that feels like a rock with a neck on it. You know you can lean on it (or kill bears with it, if touring in Alaska and the need arises) and it won't break. A 600 series Ric, by comparison, feels somewhat fragile. My 250 is my "thinking guitar" - always at hand and ready to go. I may eventually move a new idea over to one of it's more impressive looking, case-dwelling brothers, but chances are that the piece was worked out on the 250. Funny looking as these guitars may be, they're too dangerous in the hands of the general public and should only be used by trained Ric operators...

Looks like it, Peter. An around-the world ticket is only a few hundred bucks more that AUS-CAL-AUS, plus I can get 20 internal US flights thrown in with the deal. So it will probably be home via London and Singapore. I have an aunt somewhere in England (she's recently moved, so I'm not sure where) and cousins in Belfast, so a UK stopover looks like it will be on. Hopefully I'll be able to convince them to come down to London and see me - last time I went up and saw them.
Meeting some UK forumites would be a blast!!

They look OK from this angle...though I gotta admit that the binding on the 250 helps. But if you pick one up, play it for about 30 seconds and don't immediately think "What a cool little guitar!" check your pulse, because you might be dead.

WOO HOO! Looking forward to meeting you at either place. Hope we can work this out, depending on how much time you've got.
Actually, if you have the choice of only one, I'd say go for Cleveland. The R&R HOF museum is tres cool and not to be missed, and then we could go to the Great Lakes Brewery so you could test out a bunch of their *excellent* beers. They got a cool little NASA museum there too (my father-in-law worked for NASA).
Cincinnati has some neat stuff too, but I always like going places in Cleveland - kind of "the grass is always greener" in some ways.
As for hat size, I don't know - I'll have to look into that. Ask my wife and she'd probably say "fat."

That red 230 at Guitars and Effects does look very nice indeed! Wish you guys wouldn't do those things..... I'm trying to get over my addiction so I can still afford to shoot over there and see you!!
