There is one person that will buy this and it will sell but $400.for a re-issue is ridiculous and so is this.

No pickup is worth $700.or $400.Its the ignorant people who hear the word horseshoe that go all nuts.

Hmm... Yes, way too expensive. I'd rather keep the $700 and build my own treble pickup.

I was wondering if it is really an unmodified 68 horseshoe ... compare to this one ...

68 Is a transitional year. Three different pickups can appear that year. Some, like the one for sale on eBay, the early type with the thin black plastic top that has the edge raised appear on a very few early 68s. Most others are like the ones in your pictures are greenish with a thicker top. Those can come with the older larger surround or the smaller rectangular surround. Still I have seen very late 68’s with non-horseshoes.

If I had a '68 4001 with a dead treble pickup, I'd spend $700 to make it perfect again. Simple as that.

Want to see something really crazy? check this out (warning - Fender content).

I think they sound great. I'll bet it sells too.

Jason Lollar can make old horseshoes work again. He is very good at rewinding them and re-gaussing the magnets.

If I had a nice original '68 4001 with a dead pickup, I'd try to get it fixed. If I had one with no pickup or a Bart or something, I'd buy it....but then I'd put it in a box and play the guitar with an under-string pickup.

My 68' was old and weak, too. I sent it to Lindy Fralin. Now it's a snarling beast.

...I wish I knew enough to ask what he did to it to make it the way it is. I wish I had an army of them.

Yes, it gets in the way and it rattles a bit but I like the sound of the pickup on my '63. It has some sweet subtlties that none of my other Ricks can produce.

I sold my 68 last year, because the p.u. was replaced. If I had the bass still, I'd buy this in a second..
