As much as I need that horseshoe I cannot justify paying $700.for one of those darn things, the bobbin looks to be older then 68.

$700? Do they even sound that good?

nope ... in my opinion they suck ... that's why I sold my '68 ... the old 68 came to life with 4003 11k ohm high gains and no capacitor ... plus it gets in the way of playing the strings ...

That bobbin is from 63-67 the 68s tend to look just like the 68-71 high gain, greenish tint plastic with flathead screw tops.

Jared, you are right, someone will.

I recently sold my V63 type bass because of the horseshoe, the guy that bought it did so because of the horseshoe.

I guess it's a case of horses for courses.....

Being a fan of the horseshoe look,is there much of a difference in sound between the horseshoe and hi-gain.I hope rickenbacker will make the horseshoe pickup available again.

I actually think that price is inexpensive for what it is. Reissues without magnetized shoes have sold fro, $300-500 bucks. 11.5ohms is not a bad reading for a pickup known to have such a low output. I'm surprised it's still there.

I agree with you, Marc. Two reissues have sold in recent months for around $500. This one is vintage and appears to be in good shape---if I were in the market or had a vintage bass, it would be worth the $700, without question. How often do we see a 60's horseshoe pop up?!
