You should listen to his older work with Hawkwind (which I actually saw performing last friday with Alan Davey on bass who happens to be a very capable replacement for Lemmy) where he is far more melodic. My favorite Hawkwind song at the moment is Paradox with a beautiful (Rick) intro with very melodic bass playing.

yes his work with hawkwind was good ... but I find Motor head kind of 2 dimensional ... fast and loud ...

I think Lem's early playing is very melodic, especially considering how out of it he probably was....
Check out "Space Ritual" where the bass pretty much drives/carries everything, and also "Doremi Fasol Latido" , "Warrior on the Edge of Time" and "Hall of the Mountain Grill". Some great playing on those albums IMHO. Although he told me he hated "Doremi", and "that bloody Opa-Loka" off "Warrior" (which I really like).
Motorhead-wise, check out "Keep Us On The Road" on the first album. Relatively slow, with a nice melodic bass break. Ah, memories....
Back to the thread, sounds like I would probably like a Lemmy from what you've said. I think I'd try the pickup in the 4000.

I think I would choose the 4000 to put the horseshoe on. (for something else now
I rediscovered my 4000 last weekend when I put TI flats on it which where supposed to be for the 4001 FL, but with which I was disappointed. On the 4000 it makes a nice difference from the roundwounded 4001 and 4003.

Opa-Loka is more of an early trance song I think. I like it, but I do understand its no fun to play this song on a bass.

That's exactly how I look at it Bert, although I used to actually really like playing that line. But then I kind of like trance stuff too. I think in order to enjoy playing something like Opa-Loka you have to put your head into the music and out of the bass, if you get my drift.
