Well, you ran that up the flagpole and we all saluted, Paul. Outstanding job.

Very nice. Almost my dream guitar...if only it were a 6 string with toasters. Image I love the gold TRC and guards that is an option that I had never considered. Again it is very nice Paul. Well done.

If I played guitar, I would want a Weller Wham! replica in the worst way.

That Jack is a beaut Paul!

Paul, your attention to detail is staggering. I don't think I've ever seen another finisher who would have put so much thought and work into spraying a UJ on a guitar.

Thanks to all for their kind remarks.

Next up for completion are two acoustics, both somewhat unusual, a touchup on a BB 360 with stand rash, a 366/12, a Ruby 4003, a white/BT 4003, and then it's time for dinner, I think...

Stay tuned!

Make that Kraft Dinner, Paul. It would seem that you have little time for a full meal.

And the Union Flag is orientated the correct way, unlike some that I've seen done before by others. But is it Paul who did this job and we know that he's a stickler for authenticity! Image

Paul, it really looks good, but you should have made it a REAL challenge and have it waving in the breeze!! Image

Spectacular job, Paul - but can I be the lone heretic here, and say that the gold guards just don't look right (to me) with this colour combination? Why not paint the back of a clear lower guard to match the rest of the Union Jack, along with a clear upper guard to help show it all off?

Cool guitar Russ!

Cool job Paul.

Methinks the guard would not come out right painted to match the color scheme. With the paint on the underside there would be no way to tape off the color separations and get a clean delineation between them. Am I right on that, Paul?

Not quite, Dan.

The difficulty comes with the issue of using pearls (for the white) and kandies (for the blue and red...the paint on a second-surface finish must go on in reverse order, and a match to the body colors would be virtually impossible because of this. Putting down the transparent kandy tints and hoping to get a match with the body colors (where the tints went on last) is very tough with second-surface paintwork, as you don't get the true color effect until the pearl basecoat is sprayed last.) If the color is wrong, it's make a new guard or strip off the paint on the one you just finished, and start over.

The taping is not hard, but, again, because of the second surface, the order of taping for the color breaks is reversed.

Very careful masking is what makes or breaks this type of graphic. A slight defect in taping and the entire project is ruined, as kandies can't be recoated without making them darker, and pearls can't without changing their light transmission properties.
