Thanks for your replies everyone
I do eventually want to get a bass, and was intruiged by the DG colour. Pauls purchase at $1700 indicates that there is a small premium attached to the colour. If they are scarce in the US they are probably a lot rarer in Australia, which will affect their price. In reality any 4003 in good condition will do, but I was thinking that a relatively rare COY might enhance its value in years to come. I think I will sit back and watch for a while and see what turns up.
Peter, thanks for your suggestion, but thats probably a bit out of my league cost wise. I had always hoped to find an Australian 1930 Penny (only 6 were ever minted) in my pocket but I'm still waiting. Either way me and my money don't stay acquainted for very long

I have a Desert Gold 4003/5. I reckon it's pretty rare, so I'LL NEVER LET GO....YOU HERE ME?....just kidding. I'm hoping it'll put my son through college someday.

I wish! The poor kid (11 yrs old) has no rythym just yet....I'm working on it though. It's too bad, he really wants to be a drummer! By the time he goes to college, the value of the 4003/5 will probably only pay for his books!

I'd say that's very rare Dennis - how about some pics?

I used to own a 4004 in DG. In retrospect, I should've kept it. Whats new......

John, have you got a picture of that 4004 DG? I don't think I've ever seen one before.

Sorry John, I had to flip it so I could appreciate this beautiful bass in the proper orientation. Great color for a Laredo, I think it looks better on the 4004 than a 4003, no white pickguards to break the color up. I'd have trouble converting one of these to a fiver.......but I'd probably still do it.

Not long after the Desert Gold was introduced, I saw a 330DG at a Guitar Center in Atlanta. I have to admit that I wasn't very impressed. However, over the years, the finish has sort of grown on me and now, I can kick myself for not buying a lefty 360DG when I had the chance.
