Desert Gold
Just wondering, is there anything collectable about a Desert Gold 4003 apart from being a COY.
What is the going rate in the US ???
Thanks.

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others.
Re: Desert Gold
Shane, I've not come across very many Desert Gold 4003 basses. Other than COY I don't think there's anything particularly special about them. Tasty looking colour in my opinion.
Re: Desert Gold
Very, very few of them, that's for sure.
I thought John Williams had one, but that might have been the 4004....possibly the only one I believe.

Re: Desert Gold
Desert Gold was the '04 Color of the Year. John Williams's has a 4003 that is Silver if thats what you mean. He may have had a DG Larado as well, but I think he sold it.
DG is a very elegant finish.

I reckon Paul Boyer has one.
Re: Desert Gold
Shane, why not give it a try for old gold coins?
They are VERY COLLECTABLE! Easy to store, easy to transport and you will have a much more broarder customers profile (don't misunderstand this that I could have meant Rick collectors are low profile people
)!!!

Re: Desert Gold
DG was actually the '01 COY with Blue Boy in "04. I think it's a beautiful color and would grab one in a heartbeatcheyenne wrote:Desert Gold was the '04 Color of the Year. John Williams's has a 4003 that is Silver if thats what you mean. He may have had a DG Larado as well, but I think he sold it.

Re: Desert Gold
It could be that Desert Gold is the second most scarce of the COYs, with Sea Green being the most scarce. That's just an empirical guess. I've actually had two cross my way. I had one for about a month last winter, and sold it to an RIC forumite who was Jonesing for one. A second came up on eBay this summer, and that's the one I have now. Somebody in Albuquerque was liquidating a collection, and a shop there put them up on eBay. I bought the DG and a 2002 COY Burgundy, but passed on a nice Turqoise. I thought there might be more coming, but nothing since, dammit.
As far as value goes, it's tough to put a price on something that is of possible limited appeal. The last one I bought was around $1700 BIN.

Re: Desert Gold
DG is definitely a color that grew on me. I think it looks terrific now!
Re: Desert Gold
Dan,, I must have been thinking about my Blueboy.. Thanks for the correction on that COY date. '01 was the year for DG.

I WANT ONE!!

Re: Desert Gold
Tasty is right Darren. This finish makes the guitars and basses look like giant maple bars. I love 'em.rick_ovic wrote:Shane, I've not come across very many Desert Gold 4003 basses. Other than COY I don't think there's anything particularly special about them. Tasty looking colour in my opinion.
