On mine the E string used to bend at almost a 90 degree angle which I don't believe was real good for the string. I never tried it without the string through, but it seens the sound shouldn't change that much anyway as the string stops vibrating at the bridge, it doesn't vibrate beyong the bridge where the strings go through the body, do I don't get the whole deal.

Yeah, I have it strung through the bridge now. Seems to help out a little bit, I suppose.

Ordered me up some TI Jazz Flats for this here Jazz bass thingy. I'm excited to set it up (that's kind of like saying I'm excited to go change a tire, isn't it...) and see how it goes! Considering how much I like them on my 4001, I think good things are going to happen. You really can't go wrong with those strings. Heck, you wouldn't think it maybe, but my 4001 sounds so much better in Drop D (a tuning I HATE) with the TI JFs than it ever did with rounds. So I really what to hear what the Jazz sounds like with the S-1 switch engaged and disengaged.
