I will not date that bass, but if she has a better looking sister I might be interested.

If you're going to talk about a bikini wax on the first date, you might as well be talking about the Brazillian wax.
It's a smoother finish, and more touch sensitive.

Hmm...do I see an "82" in the control cavity? I know that may not mean anything, but with the Grovers, the routs, the stripe, the raised plastic TRC - what the hell, I'll say July '82.

I want to know what's up with the mysterious extra screw holes in the pickup cavities.
Did you buy this bass from someone in Roswell, NM?

Date is August 1982 (VH). One of those early 80's 4001's with the Wavy Grovers. The strange screw holes are from active jazz bass pickups that were installed in the bass when I bought it 2 years ago. They came out immediately. Fortunately they didn't rout the body any.

That is one of the famous "stragglers" (a 4001 with a post-production serial number). It was likely made a year or 3 earlier than that but was reworked or whatever and received a later SN. The latest one I have seen is an '86. The factory has a more strict SN policy these days so that kind of thing will never happen again.
