I can't knock Rickenbacker for the way it does things, it is only trying to survive in a world where Fender and Gibson rule ruthlessly. It's just a shame that genuine people cannot get parts for their genuine Rickenbackers and can be forced to pay silly prices on Ebay and potentially get ripped off in the process.
I'm sure Rickenbacker mean well but sometimes their policies make them look nasty...

Why am I saying this? It's been said again and again.......

I'll finish talking through my hat... (Actually I haven't got one one)

Ha Ha, I love these knuckleheads who use Harmony Central reviews as some kind of authority for anything. "Yeah, Rick customer service sucks because I called about why I can't sound like Weezer and could they make me one in pink, and they said no, so I give them a 1" Gotta love those stupid reviews of people with 30 years of pro experience are playing their squier bass through a Behringer combo.

I don't give a **** if John Hall paid a dollar for RIC, he's the CEO, it's still a family owned business, hasn't outsourced to Mexico or Asia, and is really none of my business how he got the company. That slugworth idiot should get his facts straight before opening his mouth, and quite frankly, if you don't like Ricks, than don't buy one.

And Burger King boy, yes, you can have it your way. Just contact Paul or Dale, and tell 'em what you want done to your Rick.

I recall reading somewhere a while ago that it took pretty much all of John and Cindalee's savings to purchase the company.

This Forum is much less anonymous than others, due to Peter's insistence on real names alongside our screen names. Keeps accountability a bit more enhanced.

Yet lately with all the new influx, real names are not as prevalent as before, and more are not putting their location in either, which I think should be a requirement for acceptance on hitting enter when registering. Helps us evaluate comments made.

I wonder how the two 4005 projects are going....

Your mistake here (if I may be so bold) was to even reply to the clown. Anyone with THAT kind of attitude deserves to be left alone to fight spiders from Mars in his basement.

haha, so his reputation precedes him, eh Paul? I will bet it's the same guy.

He was apparently angry at JH because he was unloading a bunch of Ric cases he supposedly got at guitar center for $10 a pop, and he thought JH was canceling his auctions because of the old GC case debacle....whatever. I don't care too much, but there's nothing worse than an online psychopath with time on his hands.

Cheers,

oh yeah, and on JH...who cares how he got the company. Just take a look at the history archives at the RIC page. He has been at the ric factory since he was a little kid...he put his time in well before many of the long timers started working there. A business can be bought many ways, and money or not- JH has earned it and then some.

Whenever I encounter the Rickenbacker haters out there, I always bring up the following:

When you buy a Les Paul, what is the first question you ask the seller? Is it a Gibson or an Epiphone?
When you buy a Fender Stratocaster or Telecaster, what do you ask the seller? Is it USA made, Mexican, Korean, Indonesian, Chinese or Japanese? Is it a Fender or a Squier?

When you buy a Rickenbacker, it only comes from ONE place: the good 'ol USA!

I am extremely glad that John Hall has refused to tarnish the Rickenbacker name by putting out a bunch of cheap imports like so many other companies. That is also why Ricks tend to have fantastic resale value, especially compared to most other brands out there.

Here's an idea for a slogan" "When you buy a Rickenbacker, you ALWAYS get the real thing."

I wasn't referring to anyone on these boards. Sorry if that was implied in any way.

I completely agree. Even my beloved Martin has began to make HPL versions of their acoustics. It sickens me to see them, and know that they are in fact made in Mexico. I hope Ric never gives in to the temptation of catering to the introduction market by making guitars made of inferior quality materials and assembled with no devotion in some production plant with cheap labor. Shamefully, Martin has finally done just that.

I still love my Martin 000 though don't get me wrong.

There's also an anti RIC rant currently going on over at the TDPRI.

This kind of stuff (unfortunately) goes on all the time.

Their loss.

Means more RICs for us.

With the way fuel prices are going, it's going to be cheaper to produce in North America soon, anyways.

To all the people who complain about RIC's production policies, wait times, lack of customization: :P phbbbt!!! :P

I got mine. They're real and they're spectacular.

If anyone sees a suspected "fake name", just let Peter know and he'll look into it.

All the above posts are very encouraging. Thanks one and all for sharing your thoughts. I see I made the right decision to go with my intuition and invest in (not merely purchase) a Rickenbacker. And it warms my heart to see that there are still straigh-up folks around on this planet like Mr. Hall. This is really gonna be good, you guys.

But there's also this thread:

http://www.tdpri.com/forum/bad-dog-cafe ... hread.html

And then there's THIS one, where a guy named Barnett is hatching so many misstatements based upon false assumptions, that my initial desire to address each in a logical manner in my own post, led to an, "ahhh what's the use" moment...

Anytime I read something about a Fender buyout of Rickenbacker, I want to barf.
And I love Strats and Teles.
