Nothing new here, including the personal attacks on John.

This guy "slugworth" is a prime example of opinion and speculation gone out of control for lack of real knowledge.

It's a hoot when he says:

John Hall is an odd duck. He runs his company the way he sees fit. It's his way or the highway.

...and uses this as a jumping off point for a rant on the things about RIC that he dislikes. As I read this, I thought, "and, appropriately-named ranter, would you do things any differently? If you didn't have to deal with every character with a major attitude defect, who thinks he deserves special treatment, you know, just because he graces the world with his presence, would you, or would you spend your time on fruitful pursuits that don't cause spikes in your blood pressure?"

...then he says that JH "inherited" the company from his father...another misconception that I hear trumpeted and repeated by those with more than a bit of sour grapes, who think they'd do a better job in JH's shoes.

Another character predicts a buyout by...Fender...choke..."within ten years".

Where do these people get these ideas? It must be tough to be brilliant with no paying audience for your Divine Schemata...

yeah...I don't understand these people.

I was talking to a guy about a 325 case he has for sale (craigslist) and then found a closer one, so I backed out of the deal, and the guy calls me a "Ric whore" (?) and sends me a picture of JH. I thought....what a weirdo, so I replied that I respect JH's business practices and how despite the ever-changing globalized guitar industry he has stuck to his guns about how the company is run and the products they make.

WELL...apparently that sent the guy into a rage and fit, as he proceeded to call me every name in the book and threaten me for days.Sore subject I guess. There are some real psychos out there, I tell ya.

Glad I never gave him my $$ ! :D

Cheers,

I personally loved this comment:
Want something special on your guitar? Rickenbacker isn't Burger King. You don't get it your way there.
This guy making his own 4005 is a psycho. Certainly not saying it can't be done obviously, but I don't think he is off to a good start.
Initially I used my circular saw to cut in the first 30-50mm and then used my Jetcut handsaw to do the rest. It was hard work and took me the best part of an hour
WTF?

Collin, sounds like you might have encountered The Emperor! He slings a lot of nonsense if you cross him (by his perceptions...).

Your mistake here (if I may be so bold) was to even reply to the clown. Anyone with THAT kind of attitude deserves to be left alone to fight spiders from Mars in his basement.

I didn't think it got that bad. Sure, there were some ignorant comments, but I think I've seen some just as bad on this forum. Aside from being illegal, I wonder how his effort to build a 4005 is going. What I do find funny is the people lamenting the fact RIC refuses to build a 4005 obviously haven't seen the cost estimates for a new one.

What is the story with the "inherited" part, anyway? I know JH took over the company in the 80s and I always assumed it was an inheritance kind of thing (which is fine by me), but if it isn't, I'd like to know, at least in general terms, how it happened so that I'm not ill-informed.

I recall John posting here that he bought the company from dad.

I thought it was only illegal to sell them?

Kinda like how my friend "bought" his fathers mint condition Camaro for $300?

And that's just the sort of uncalled-for insinuation that doesn't deserve to make it into print in a public forum.

What the deal actually was, is nobody's business. Knowing John, though, I think he would insist on a deal that was fair to both his father and to himself. Speculation of this sort has no possible positive outcome.

What we CAN say for sure is that Mr. Hall cares about and has vastly improved the company.

Just look at the C or V series compared to the horribly inaccurate B-series made in the interim.

The B-series may be inaccurate but they are also sort of desirable now!

I could really care less if he is a complete jerk off or a super friendly guy. I tip my hat to him for keeping the company going strong, not letting the quality of the product go down and keeping all the manufacturing and assembly in the United States.

Obviously the guitars are a unique and extremely desirable instrument or we wouldn't be having this conversation. He just happens to put a face to the company and speaks to his haters and fans alike. I have not ever seen a CEO for any instrument company that communicates with the end users as much as he does. Not only on his own forums but also on forums such as these here.

The anonymity of the internet while using pseudonyms creates a forum for expression, and less accountability. You have to take what people say with a grain of salt.
