It just did it again! Right after I hit 'submit' on that last comment reply to 'Captsandwich,' a gazillion new RRF pages sprouted up in new tabs and crippled my computer again. I don't know WHAT the heck is causing that, but it only happens with this site!

" Zero all data, Clean re-install."

Don't use Internet Explorer, seriously. Try using Firefox and see if it still happens.

There is absolutely no virus on this site, viruses don't work that way anyway.

My guess is that you simply have your windows box filled with viruses/malware.

Just install a decent antivirus (I recommend kaspersky) and some anti spyware applications (like spybot and ad-aware) and let them clean your computer.

If all else fails, head over to Castlecops.com and read up on "HiJackThis" which is a utility which you can run and post the results on a forum there. They have a fleet of volunteers who help folks clean junk off their systems that other scanners can't handle. HiJackThis produces a log file which checks registry entries, certain log files etc which reveal strange or dangerous crud lurking in the system. It also enables the user to clean out bad registry entries and other items which is where the CastleCops folks come in - they provide instructions on what to do based on the log files you post there. Worth a shot...

It may only appear when you access the forum, but you may have picked up some spyware/malware from a link posted from here which you clicked on.


Also try clearing your browser history, temp internet files and cookies.

A good program I use to detect and clean spyware/malware from my computer is Ad-Aware by Lavasoft.

When I had my PCs I used Trend Micro PC-Cillin.

Mark, besides anti-virus, do you have any malware-blocking programs like SpywareBlaster or Spybot Search & Destroy installed? If not, I'd recommend them, as they do seem to help keep things from creeping into the PC, as they are active from start-up.

Also,if your AV isn't BitDefender, I would recommend that you do an on-line BitDefender scan (free, but it'll take a bit over an hour) ... here's the link:

It has to be run in IE (not Firefox), but I have found it to be really good at finding things that my other (freeware) AV didn't find.

I use SpyBot also. It works very well.

Yup, IE is the source of all evil
He has a virus or something like that, he should take care of that anyway.
I use Linux + Firefox/Opera and I believe they are far superior to IE.

I'm using IE and have no problem. Is there something wrong with my IE?

One other program that I use regularly is CCleaner ... it removes junk files and junk registry entries that can cause problems.

A lot of the problems with IE are due to Microsoft's idiocy with regard to the default settings. I remember seeing on one computer that IE had allotted 1024 MB of disk space for the temporary Internet files !
