Hijacked and then flown to Glasgow, where the passengers have been forced by their captors to watch an incomprehensible jumble of panto gags, double entendres and dodgy Brit-celebrity references.....

I love it!!!!! :D

For those who've never lived in the UK and haven't experienced the whole panto thing and the associated culture - I can't even begin to explain....

haha...I grew up (for a few years at least..) in the UK, and I still have no clue what you are talking about! Guess I didn't watch television enough!

Collin,

Did you ever go to a panto? That's 70% of the joke running through the thread.... It is a culturally "unique" experience. I still haven't recovered from a single trip with my kids to the local town theatre in 2001. The spectre of "Buttons" still haunts my darkest nightmares....

What, like a Pantomine? Can't say I have! I feel so inadequate, hah!

Understanding pantomime is easy...

Men dress up in womens clothes and women dress up in mens clothes, some dress up as farm animals, everybody camps it up and a jolly good time is had by all!

There! It's easy!

Sounds like a weekend at Dave Pascoe's house!

I recall attending the occasional "panto" in my early years in South Australia. Priceless memories.

Sounds to me like they're going on about some British TV show (which we'll no doubt get to see on PBS in about 20 years). I'm sure the U.S. folks could go on about some TV show we have and they'd be just as lost. Of course, I'd still be just as lost too since I haven't watched TV in over 20 years...

Definitely not on TV, in fact occasionally they try one on TV at Christmas time but it doesn't really work. Panto's only work live in the theatre with a live audience (ideally half children and half drunk adults). The audience fall in love with the leading lady (who is a lady), but she falls in love with the leading man (who is also a lady) the leading lady's mother (who is a man) is usually a horror, as are the sisters (also men). There, I have clarified it now.
