A 360S/12OS...could it be Pete's?

Post by JakeK »

I was looking through some photos at the RIC Corporate forum, and noticed this pic:

Could that 360S/12OS POSSIBLY have found it's way into the hands of Pete Townshend?

Image

Shame if it did:

I love the picture in the link. Classic Pantomime! Slap my thigh and say "Twenty miles from London and still no sign of Dick". (UK members fall about laughing, USA members scratch your heads and wonder why).

No, Jake, I believe these are two different guitars....same model of course, but not the same instrument.

Jake, I don't believe the Danny D. 360s/12 is the same instrument as Pete's, though it is one of a tiny number of them made in '64 (possibly two, I've heard).

Though, after scouring the picture for a long while, I believe the 360s/12 pictured in Smith's book, (I don't know the page number off-hand), that was a promotional picture from Rickenbacker, was the same instrument shipped as a sample to Rose-Morris and ultimately ended up in Pete's hands. The TRC is VERY distinctive, and the two match up perfectly.

I think Danny D's guitar was used by him as a promotional piece at the guitar shows, and was likely in use when Pete's was already shipped off to Rose Morris.

It's all speculation though, without production numbers.
