What would a 4001 V68 have (other than the following)? I'm curious as to the significance of 1968 for Rick basses, and I offer apologies for my ignorance in advance.

-CB
-FWI
-Neck toaster
-different fretboard radius
-period body shape, headstock contours, and thinner, period type neck

Would it also have:
Horseshoe bridge p/u?
Wavy Grovers?
Different number of frets ( I know the number has varied over the years, but I can't remember how, sorry).

I'm interested in this concept. Enlighten me, my friends.

I know, Paul, I'm supposed to be getting to sleep, but here goes:

- Checkered binding
- Full-width inlays (technically crushed pearl, but RIC has never done this on a reissue before)
- Neck toaster at the 1/2" position (as opposed to the modern 1" position)
- Not sure about radius but it wouldn't be much different than the modern one
- Current body shape is basically there
- Longer headstock w/ plexi TRC
- Thinner neck (though the current one is probably close).
- Early 68's had horseshoes, later 68's didn't - the reissues probably would.
- 20 frets.
- Gap-toothed tailpiece.
- Finger rest

Okay, now on the the minutae. Guys?

I'm looking forward to a new 4000 Series bass model from RIC. No more upside-down headstocks!

If I could make a wish: v68 in Jetglo with ambered binding and inlays (like on the AFG).

The V68 is a fantasy bass "designed" by several members in a thread started here a few years back. The arbitrary year '68 was chosen mostly because it was the first of the "perfected" 4001s. It had a relatively sturdy neck-head joint, crushed MOP inlays, checkerboard binding, thin neck, walnut wings, cast aluminum tailpiece, and the early ones had horseshoe pickups.

I've got a custom made v68, but would not hesitate to order a new one from RIC if they came available. Fireglo please!

Folks are still going to want a "S" bass.. While they are doing a 4001v68 they could also do a 4000v68!

Use the C64 body
Dot markers but use the current 4003 neck (with correct way long headstock) and plexi nameplate.
Minimal routing at neck joint (just enough to get the truss rods out)
One mighty horseshoe!
C64 tailpiece
Long scratchplate with holes for two pots and no neck pickup.

Would not be too hard to do. And perhaps enough people would empty their wallets to get one..

Its worth dreaming about..

I like it, but, like the late 60s 4000, it should have a rout for a neck pickup... so those who want can create their RM1999 RI.... though to be period perfect the rout would have to be shallow, which would require a ri of the short pole-piece toaster!

Quite a bit lighter than what most people are used to as well. No binding cap at the end of the neck past the 20th fret.

Pickguard should reach nearly touching the treble p/up surround. Correct hole placement for pots on the pickguard.

Non-wavy Grovers on later basses. Just look at Andy's '68 and copy it. Perfecto.

eden,#1 on the 4000,but let's make it a 50's style reissue as long as were fantasizing..... i'd like mine in ambered fireglo with the gold plastic,please!

Im probably going to get flamed here,, and I'm all for new products just like all you guys..

That being said,,I just really hate it when they discontinue an item to make room for something else.

*I apologize to RIC for this statement in advance because in the grand scheme of things, I realize I dont know the first thing about how Rickenbacker is operated.
