Very nice, Devan. I stand by my original appraisal. I agree with Gary though...you might find better opinions under the "Appraisals" heading.
Your '72 looks to be in very good condition and all original, but the case is not. It's probably better than the cases that RIC was using in '72 though!
Good luck!

Thanks, it is in good condition, I was told this is the original case, what makes you think it isnt?

Sweet bass!

Very nice! Looks like an early - mid '72, by the flat Grovers.

I assume you're part of the Traynor family? I'm a Yorkville/Traynor amp man myself!
Oh....and nice bass too.

Re: 1972 Rickenbacker Original Bass
Well...The Rick bass cases from the early 70's were kinda spotty... I think many buyers didn't want to pay for the RIC hard shell case, and because of that (and many others not surviving the typical abuse a bass case takes) not many 4001's from this period have their original HSC. Many ended up in Fender cases -- Maybe they were cheaper and easier to come by.Dtraynor wrote:Thanks, it is in good condition, I was told this is the original case, what makes you think it isnt?
Any who. I've never seen one with a pink lining, and that's why I don't think it is original. It may have been the case that the bass left the store with, but it isn't a RIC case.
An original RIC 4001 case from this period should look like these:

Occasionally, I see one with an orange lining like this too:

Nice 4001, if only it were Fireglo.
Welcome to the Forum Devan, your Dad did indeed make wonderful amps, company still does.
