So glad to hear that - it looks nothing short of spectacular! Good call on the 4-knob setup too.

Beautiful guitar, no question. Not to be nit-picky, but crushed pearl would not have been used in '61, or with a 4-knob setup. Still a beaut, tho.

There are exceptions...you see crushed pearl being used every so often between '57 and the standardization in '64.

Really? THAT would be something to see. Please post some pictures, if you have them, JB.

Bumping this thread to update you, Alan.
I can definitively say that '61s did have crushed pearl inlays, possibly as an early experiment like many others before 1964. In fact, they went through at least three different inlays materials in 1963 alone! It differs a little bit from '64-'72 CPI in that the shell pieces are a little larger, but it's not a huge difference IMO.
These are on my '61 365 "New Capri"

Collin how did you manage to preserve the finish adjacent to the routes for the binding?
I didn't have a table router set up at the time, so Larry routed the binding channels carefully and I bound it with full masking of the adjacent finish. Spent way too many hours carefully binding it, and spot amber finishing on the binding only.
I have a photobucket folder documenting it, somewhere....I'll find a link.
Sweet! Great looking, Collin.

Thanks Larry -- wouldn't look half as great without that nice fingerboard you made me. Sorry I hadn't sent the "completed" photos yet.
