Actually, Gary, Mapleglo came standard with BT/BH from 1986-92 and you would have had to pay extra to get the white/chrome (reverse trim) option! So Mapleglo with BT/BH isn't all that rare. Likewise, the BT/BH reverse trim option was available on Fireglo from 1986 to 2002, but this is (so far) the only instance of that option applied to a Fireglo bass that I've seen.

I have seen pics of FG with factory black guard and TRC, but never with black binding. Yours looks on my monitor more brown than reddish, possibly WAL or some experimental finish?

I'm still trying to find another one of these Rics. If I do, I'd probably have to buy it, of course. :D

Welcome, Don.
Cool rare bass, and those "S's" sure are a joy to play.

There was this awesome double-bound (b/w) 1976 Walnut on eBay a couple of years ago, that had a similar vibe.

That's just gorgeous - one of the nicest finishes I've seen for a long time.

That said, and looking closely at that first shot, are there neck angle issues with this bass? The action seems to be climbing steeply - particularly noticeable on the E string.

I really like that..!! Wonder why they didn't make more of those.

I have seen a lefty WAL 4001 from the late 70's with black trim, owned by the elusive 'Mr. X'....Paul Boyer knows who I am talking about...

I do love the Black Trim options of the late 80's and early 90's, but I have never seen a fireglow one, ever, so that must be unique.
perhaps one day, we may see a return to bespoke basses.
