1987 4003 Fireglo Black Trim. One of the very few?

Post by DJJazzV »

First post in this great Rickenbacker forum. Been on Talkbass for a while.
I’d like to start with my ’87 4003 FGBT. Haven’t been able to find another anywhere, except my Talkbass posts. Google can’t even find another.
Thank you to Paul Boyer for his compliments and details about it, as well as his awesome book.
The other is my ’89 4003S. That’s my workhorse player bass.

Welcome to the forum!

Wow, that's gorgeous! I just LOVE black trim!
8) 8) 8)

Yes, standard trim was white/chrome, but for a while, it was possible to special order instruments with black trim. Seems to me it may have been referred to as "reverse" trim, where if the normal trim was white/chrome, they would reverse it to black, if it was normally black they would change it to white/chrome...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Very rare beast. I've only seen it on a guitar previously, never a bass.

Thanks for "coming over" Don. I hope someday to ammend the book with a shot of your FG/BT bass :D . As far as I know, it's the only one!

Welcome, Don! :)

I would agree that BT on Fireglo (as well as on Mapleglo) is an uncommon option. Great combination, though! 8)

I really wanted my 4003FL to look like that, closest I could get (so far) was this:

Changing the binding will probably never happen...

Welcome Don - beautiful basses. The BT does work with the FG.

CJ, just use black electrical tape.
