That gives me an idea for my strips of binding laying around the house, now I just need a bass.

That's interesting that you have a white/white. Now would Rickenbacker have allowed a special order of a 4003 with vintage pickups?
If so, maybe mine is original.

Here's a photo of a local '80 4001S for sale all done up in vintage parts. Very similar to Gary's '75. I've actually thought of picking this one up until I can find the right v63.

Nice, you could just tell people it's the rare unnumbered Squire bass.

Seems that I remember a couple of years ago that a matching white/white 4003 and a 360 appeared at some store, it looks like the 4003 has reappeared in Marc's hands. Anyway the story was that they were custom ordered for a video shoot for someone, never quite got the whole story.

Jeff, my 78 midnight blue 4001 has blue on the aluminum block and my 79 mapleglo has clear on the aluminum block and neither are refinishes. I have observed this on other Rics also.

Bob, wouldn't the '78 4001 be Azureglo, not Midnight Blue? I didn't think that the latter appeared until the mid 1980s.
I think that there is black paint on the aluminum block of my all-original 1984 325v59, too; the nut area is shown here:

Marc,
Man, she's so beautiful!
Toaster and Horseshoe and vintage knobs.
Original parts or not, big bang for the $995 bucks.

that's interesting ... I have 6 Rics ... the only one with paint on the truss rod nuts is the refinished one ... the others are just bare metal ...

There are some spots of black paint on the nuts of my '86 Shadow, which is Jetglo.
Some transparent paint on those of my '72 Mapleglo.
No paint on those of my '98 Fireglo.
Human factors at the factory, IMHO.

"black paint on the nuts of my '86 Shadow..."
I though Sophie was a girl?!

Ha!
Sophie becomes a boy when she goes "nuts".
Well, girls have nuts too, just somewhere in their body cavity, producing monthly eggs...

Gary, no it's a Midnight blue, I had a new one and they were identical, Azureglo was lighter and is very rare, most of these basses you see on Ebay that are called Azureglo are really Midnight Blue.

Rickenbacker offered Midnight Blue in '78!?!?
Was that one in Playboy an MB?
