White out!

It might be a refin, but I picked it up anyway. The story was it was traded in from a customer who has alot of vintage material. HE was told that this was special factory order that was returned.

The store owner is puzzled about the binding and why you can't see it.He said that he opened it up and it was hard to tell from looking at the cavity if it was refined.

Anyway, while I would have preferred a slightly yellowed bass,I still would have trouble finding the horseshoe and toaster pickups for it.

He said the serial # begins with 00 or OO. I'll have it tomorrow and let you know.

Heavenly.

Marc, I once asked John Hall about a White 360WB and why it had no binding...He said explained that they didn't feel that you would be able to see the binding anyway, so why do it. I've seen at least three other instruments done the same way. Cool.

One way to tell if a Ric is a refin or not ... look under the truss rid cover ... if it has paint on the truss rod or truss rod nuts it is a refin ...

my cream colored ric is a refin ... it is a pretty good job ... it fooled some experts ... by the way ... that is not black binding ... it is vinyl auto detailing tape ... it comes off very easily ... but looks cool ...

You'd better wash your hands before playing it!

Great looking guitar sir.

Cool bass, now why do I keep hearing...."And so it was that later
as the miller told his tale
that her face, at first just ghostly,
turned a whiter shade of pale."

Now I have Procol Harum in my head, doggone it I'll hum that thing all day!

I heard the same story as John Williams relates above with regard to a white 4003 bass I saw here in town a few years back... It was bright white, brand new, and had no binding that I could see, with or without sunglasses!

Gene, Maybe it's the same bass. Couldn't be too many floating around.

It just looked to good to pass up.Refin or not.

I discovered it over the weekend searching GBase gear base mall. Threw "horseshoe" in as a search term. Turned out they got the bass in Friday.

Called them 10:01 this morning to order.I wasn't going to ask your opinions first;-)

I've posted previously this shot of my 1998 4003 WHT/WT (local purchase) alongside my 1975 4001S WHT (eBay purchase):

This 4003 does have white binding; it may be visible in this lo-res close-up:
