"I'd sell internal organs for a 4002."

Then this should be worth both lungs, a kidney and
maybe a spleen?.... Image

considering a non-cirrhotic kidney will fetch $20,000-35,000 in the grey market...

Some day we will have another Rick confluence and everyone can play the 4002. It is hard to explain but the 2 has a soul. It is alive and responsive in ways my other Ricks cannot approach. They are truly unique. I played Rush stuff on it for several years but it can do softer tones too. It is much easier to control than a 4001. They are awesome basses. I just wish more of them would surface on ebay. While there are no production numbers, it has been said that 200 would be on the high side. There were about 50 Shadows (or were there?) and a half dozen have appeared on ebay since January.

"non-cirrhotic kidney"

Well I'm screwed - picked the wrong week to quit drinking!

Let me know when the Rick confluence is - I'll patiently wait in line for some quality time with the hallowed 4002.

I think it's time we had a "Rick confluence" here in sunny So.Cal. We can have it over at the RIC factory in John's office while we're talking him into coming back to the board. We can use my drummer and to accompany us all doing "Big Bottom"

A few years ago, I simplified my Rickenbacker collection and sold everything, except for two basses. I still have a '77 4002 and a '97 4003 with toaster/horseshoe. I've thought about parting with both of these basses in the past, but the 4003 was my first Rickenbacker and the 4002...I have to agree with Ted's thoughts on the 4002 and soul. I run mine through an Aguilar DB659 into an EBS active cabinet. I have a RNC Compressor that sees some occasional use, but it's mostly left in bypass. Simple and clean is best for me.

While the 4002 is my 'desert island' bass, in such desperate situations I could still see myself using it as a paddle or as fuel for a fire. It's not worth selling internal organs over.

Well it's not sunny today, that'e for sure. At least when it's raining stuff can't catch on fire. I think J.H. has already spoken out on the 4005 issue. If 100 or so people are willing to pay $5000.00 each, he'll build it.

It'll be a loooonnnggg time till RIC produces these....IF they ever produce them....

Quote from JH on Wednesday, June 3rd of this year...

"Would you pay $3000 list (maybe $2100 street) for a 4001v68 bass like this?
Would it make any difference whether the 4003 (at $1700 list) was still available or not?
A 4005 would have to be upwards of $4000 list.
Forget the 4002."

He also went on to mention that there are other guitars to produce before any basses would surface...

You could hear the collective cries of "me,me,me" from we forumites across the land...

Let's see, $4000 list for a re-issue 4005? That translates into , what, about $2500-3000 street?...

No offense, but I think the guitar world already has plenty of choices.

Its very frustrating.

At least I wish they wouldnt keep discontinuing all the recent good models.

First generation 4004 Cheyenne

4003S-5

4003S-8

V63

I'd also be kinda nice to see a new "limited edition"
