Don't get that either Simon. I'm sure I could spend many happy days browsing your Rick collection though Image

Re the Roto strings discussion, I was a victim of them too; they took my 4001 and bowed the neck horribly. You're right, we just didn't know 35 years ago that Rick truss rods weren't the same as Fenders. Every "repair" guy I went to back then tried to adjust the neck with the rods and not set the neck first, then lock it with the rods. I sold my first 4001 at that time; I could cry when I think about it. I even remember writing to Rickenbacker Corp. and getting a nasty worded response to stop using round wounds and use only "our" flats. I was so soured by the experience, waited until 1988 to buy another one. Now I have 3 and want more !

Simon, LOL!!!!! And I used to think I had it bad with my one 8 string or my 6 string Sei...

And Robert, yeah, my precious 72 was fine when I bought it; I took it for a setup once several years ago and lo and behold when it came back the rods had bent into the head. Of course it was only when I came on the Forum that I found out why...

on the subject of necks and roundwounds I always use Roto RS66LC's - a very slight step down from standards (and after a song or two I really don't notice the difference) and MUCH kinder to Rick necks of all ages! you can bend em easily, too...

Simon, what gauge are those? I use 40-95 Rotos on my 72, and have been using 45-105 on my 4000 and CS, but am considering moving back to the 40-95 for those too.

yes Shaun, RS66LC's are 40-95 - i'd get them from Stringbusters if you're in the UK (£11.40 a set...) OR! go to the Wembley guitar show in May! it was £10 a set on the day this year!!! (You folks in the USA no doubt get them for half that anyway?????)

Good choice Simon! Great minds think alike Image...I've been getting mine from Strings Direct, around £13.95 including postage; maybe I'll have to check out Stringbusters.
