Nate, Happy Birthday mate. You're living proof that life gets better for each generation. You've already got your first Rickenbacker haven't you? I could only borrow an older friend's bass when I was your age. I didn't get my own 4001 until I was nearly 40...but hey, I've now made up for lost time!

I got my first 4001 when I was 13. It was a used MG, and I traded and old jazz bass copy in for it. I paid like $300 for it.I sold it when I was 22 and now I wish I had kept it. It was a fantastic bass.
I recently went back to playing a Rickenbacker bass. Its like meeting an old friend again

I'm pretty sure I was still 18 in this pic. My second Bass was my 72'4001.

HEY NATE!! HAPPY 17th!!!! Too cool....17 Huh? I didn't get my first Ric until I was 33, and that was 11 years ago! You've had a great start!

Hey Garret!

My first bass was a GIBSON G-3 THE EXACT SAME COLOR.........in .............. I forgot, 1977? When I still had brain cells, well more than I have now anyway......I miss that bass.....I played through an old KUSTOM 200W Tube head with 2 15" on the bottom....I wish I still had both of them.....

On another note: WHERE THE HECK ARE ALL THE FAT BASS PLAYERS? EVERY picture I've seen is of SKINNY PEOPLE?!?! I feel so alone Image
Guess its time to drop the LBS......Oh well, the Mrs. will be happy about that!

Yeah, I had to wait until I was 22 to buy myself a 4001. At 17 I could only dream of having one.

I lucked into mine. A friend let me pay him in installments for my first Rick, which was boosted from my house... through the wonders of homeowner's insurance I got the one in the pic above.
