Brian, I agree with you. Just because someone collect war artifacts, guns, knives, etc. doesn't make anyone a hate monger, or a nazi.
What legitimate reason could someone have for having child porno? There isn't any unless your disturbed, plain and simple or in law enforcement specifically for an investigation as you mentioned.

This thread should have never went down this path. When it was first posted all I saw was Lemmy playing a cool looking modded RIC bass which we all love. I think we all love to see celebrities playing our beloved instruments, and until the nazi subject was brought up I didn't think anything about it.
I think we all need not be so sensitive, and just enjoy seeing some heavy hitters playing what this forum is all about.

Also as far as if Ric should have even made one in his name since he isn't a "legitimate musician" is an odd comment. In the metal scene Lemmy is legendary and Motorhead is consistently listed as an influence to countless bands. Is he the "best" bass player ever?!?! I suppose it depends on your criteria (and I realize most, if not all, would say he is not). He is not what I would rank as the best but he has a unique style and tone and does have some great bass lines. He is certainly more of an influence to me and my playing than Geddy, PMC or Squire. So I think it was perfectly fitting that Ric honored him with a signature model. Besides when you think of Lemmy, if you have almost any knowledge of him, you'd likely also think of him with a Ric. That, I believe, is enough justification for the company to make the LK.

I really have no knowledge of him and that's why my comments are prefaced as questions. I'm sure he's legitimate, what I said is there is a large pool of legitimate Rick players to choose from. Why a Lemmy as opposed to a Glover or a Gibb? Just seems an obscure choice if you're only going to be marketing one signiture bass model. Why not Geezer Butler, Cliff Burton, or Glen Hughes? Remember the 4001c64s is like McCartneys but not specifically endorsed by him, nor is it a signiture model in the same sense as a 4004LK, or 4001CS. Hey I'd take an all white 4001MG (Maurice Gibb), or a 4001RM (Randy Meisner), how 'bout a 4005LG (Larry Graham)? I'm putting in an order right now for a 4001NSN (Nick St. Nicholas)!

So I guess it's obvious that I make a living as a TV news correspondent, huh?... that's what we do. But seriously, looking again at the "soundbites" I've cut and pasted here, I don't think I was unfair. It's not like he said "don't drink and drive" and I just took the "drink and drive" part. And I left out certain parts that could make him look even worse. If you've read the interview you know what I'm referring to.

I think Lemmy can collect whatever he wants if it's not breaking any law, but putting a sticker like that on a musical instrument, well, that was too much for me, so when the question came up, "what's not to like?" about that bass, I thought I'd mention what's not to like. I still think it's very bad taste on his side.

Perhaps RIC was trying to expand it's market. Macca, McGuinn, and Petty are great and all but hardly a cross section of the music biz.

My wife wonders why I find history fascinating when such misery was the direct result of most of it. The answer is partly: if you don't know what happened, it could just as easily happen again.
And personally, I prefer WWI as a subject.

How much of a rockstar's interview persona is designed to support the stage show mystique, I wonder? Alice Cooper gave some pretty outrageous interviews in his day. These days he is about as wholesome and community oriented as they come.

Glover or a Gibb?

Isn't Glover using mostly Vigier basses nowadays? Perhaps he doesn't want to lend his name to a bass he wouldn't really play. Dunno about Gibb.

Geezer Butler, Cliff Burton, or Glen Hughes?

Geezer barely played one at all, and it was a pretty "normal" model at that. Cliff also had only a late 70's Burgundy Rick, which he did later change the pickups on, but I don't think we'll be seeing RIC release any basses with Jazz pickups and a mudbucker. He also only played it for about two or three years with Metallica. Dunno about Glenn Hughes.

Nobody knows how extensively Graham used his 4005. The only known footage i've seen is a pic that was posted on this site from a TV show.

Lemmy has been playing Ricks exclusively since the 70's and Motorhead as a whole is a huge cult figure in hard rock. I'd be hard pressed to find any major punk/hard rock/metal bands of the past 20 years that don't count Motorhead as an influence.

Sounds pretty deserving of a signature model to me.

That fact of the matter was that I was going to convert a 4003 into the Maple LK. It was going to be a costly conversion to say the least. That's why I purchased the FG 4003 a couple of weeks ago.

Now with the porn and Nazi connection to this bass, I think that I will skip it.

I get pelted with enough rotten fruit when I play as it is...
