Wow! Tim has become quite the Rick man.

And you've discovered the 80's Ricks. Best kept secret in the Rickenworld. Some whine about the horns being too fat, but the necks(like a 70's neck, only with adjustable truss rods) and the tone are outstanding, aren't they? I don't know if the two extra screws in the tailpiece affect the tone, or if its in the pickups or the wood.

I hadn't noticed the horns being fatter, but now that you mention it they are. Does that really bother folks? Seems like a minor detail to me. I had noticed the two extra screws in the tailpiece though. Was wondering if a previous owner had added them to prevent lifting. From what you say can I gather that is stock.

It really is a wonderful sounding Rick. If all the 80s basses sound like this one it was a good era indeed!

The two extra screws came on the 4003 from 1980 until 1989 or so to prevent lifting. Plus you get the superior Schaller tuners, working truss rods, chunky frets, and no bass cut cap.

No worries, Jeff. Those horns don't bother me in the least.

Good. I prefer the thinner horns, but not enough to keep me away from them mid-80's Rickies.
